3 Bird House

This *had* to be called 3 Bird House. No other name would do!

ceramic, collage, acrylics, number 3, footed pedestal, mixed media, assemblage, distressed, gothic, steampunk, vintage, antique, automaton, mechanical art, kinetic art, resin clay, paper clay, acrylics, bird, mechanical toy, antique

The base is separate from the house so we could put a tiny DJ inside which in turn motivates the birds to jump up and down on the roof. You do believe me don’t you!!!

Instead of glazing (this was my first ceramic piece and didn’t really know how to glaze) it is painted with acrylic paints and collaged. The roof took *forever* since each roof tile is made from a small hand made mold and once applied it took a lot of time to blend the seams together. The little birds are paper mache clay and the handmade beads on the handle are made from resin clay.

The video of it is on You Tube.

This is one of my favorites – It makes me laugh every time I watch it on You Tube! I’d love to take 3 Bird House as a class!

I’m so glad you like this one too! It’s so fun to play with it’s almost addicting!

We won’t be making this exact one since this one is made of ceramic clay that had to be fired in a kiln. I made a much more portable version and you can see the class sample on this page http://remnantsofolde.com/2009-art-retreat-workshops.

The You Tube video is at

It won’t be at any other retreats but I may offer it as an online workshop at some point.

So glad you like it Rachel!! We’re teaching this at some of our upcoming art retreats (but in a much easier version to do in one day– the ceramic one might be a bit of a stretch!!!).

Thanks so much for stopping by our blog!!!
